Spring transforms the terra firma into a beautiful canvas tattooed with the most stunning colours from the blossoming gardens. Cheerio Halt Gardens is ideally suited for leisurely walks, picnics, scrumptious tea and scones or fly fishing. The Tea Garden is operational from Wednesdays to Sundays. This historic public garden is a vision when the azaleas, cherry blossoms, camellias, hydrangea, irises and foxgloves begin to flower.
An innovative Sheila Thompson (also known as Box Thompson) started the garden in 1946 with a minuscule amount of seeds, plants and cuttings, her determination is the result of Cherrio Halt today. The property was purchased by Sheila's father in 1918. Sheila Thompson received 6 blossoming cherry trees in the 1950's by the Emperor of Japan's physician, who visited Cheerio Halt and claimed that it was one of the most beautiful gardens that he had seen. The garden hosts hundreds of flowering cherry trees.
