Previously knows as Fanie Botha Dam, Tzaneen Dam is also located on the Groot Letaba River and is also surrounded by a nature reserve. The Dam provides a perfect venue for water sports, anglers, bird watching (over 350 species spotted), camping, caravanning and family picnics with a barbeque on the banks.
Tropical fruit plantations including tea and banana surround this dam. The dam is home to many largemouth bass but only a few smallmouth bass. Fishing is allowed and if you are lucky you might catch a 3 to 4 kg fish.
Tzaneen Dam hosts several competitions each year including the Tzaneen Bass Classic held every June.
