The original Magoebaskloof Hotel was built in 1937, located on Magoebaskloof Road, between Polokwane and Tzaneen in the Haenertsburg region. An unspoilt setting was chosen for the hotel’s location with glorious views extending to Duivelskloof, Modjadji and beyond. The hotel was built among indigenous bush and trees. The Magoebaskloof was built by Archie and Eileen Rankin.
ACCOMMODATION
A Variety of Rooms to Choose From

We have 8 Standard Twin Rooms and 11 Standard Double Rooms. Each room accommodates 2 adults in existing bedding. All rooms are non-smoking, smoking is allowed in designated areas.

There are 3 family rooms, each accommodating 2 adults in a double or twin bed combination and 2 children in bunk beds.

The 12 Deluxe Rooms are the latest addition to the property, these feature double and twin with en-suite bathrooms, lounge, and patio. All rooms are non-smoking, smoking is allowed in designated areas.

Our Self Catering Apartments are pool facing with splendid views over the Magoebaskloof Valley. These apartments consist of two rooms sleeping 4 people in 1 double and 1 twin room. Both have en-suite bathrooms. Rooms have a lounge, fully equipped kitchen, and a large patio area. All rooms are non-smoking, smoking is allowed in designated areas.

Fishing
For those who love fishing, the hotel is situated within easy reach of Ebenezer Dam. The Ebenezer Dam is well known amongst fishermen for its large Trout, Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass. Through the Haenertsburg Trout Association special access has been granted to still waters, and guided river fishing with float tubes can be arranged upon request.
Nature Trails & Forest Walks
The nearby Afromontane forest is the perfect location for taking early morning walks or an opportunity to immerse yourself in the lush sub-tropical forest that surrounds the property. We have a stunning walk down to our own waterfall where fortunate guests may see a family of resident mongoose or be lucky enough to view the endemic Samango Monkeys.
Mountain Bike Trails
For the adventurous mountain bikers we have mapped out several mountain bike trails around the property and surrounding areas. Mountain bikes are available for hire at R50 per hour per bike. For the more advanced cyclist it is recommended to B.Y.O.B. (Bring your own bike).
Swimming Pool
The Magoebaskloof swimming pool is perfectly positioned in front of the main hotel and is surrounded by lush green lawns and beautiful views over the Magoebaskloof Valley. A popular relaxation spot where adults can relax in chaise loungers, while kids enjoy the refreshing cool water.
Squash Court
A great way to burn off energy or perfect a new skill, a game of squash is a fun and enjoyable experience. Come play with a friend or train alone.
Mountain Spa
Come and relax in the midst of the “Misty Mountain Magic” and enjoy a relaxing treatment overlooking the Woodbush Forest and the Magoebaskloof Valley.

Enjoy While You're In and Around Town

This legendary Game Reserve covers an area of almost 19 500 square km and is home to a wide variety of plant and animal life, as well as the big 5, you will also find buffalo, zebra, giraffe, hippopotamus, wildebeest, kudu, hyena and much much more. The park offers game drives as well as walking tours of the park.

Djuma is a private game reserve situated in the famous Sabi Sand Game Reserve which is part of the greater Kruger National Park. It was started almost twenty years ago as a safari lodge by the Moolman family and is renowned for the quality of its game safaris. Guides and trackers not only know the ways of the African bush they are able to follow the various fascinating animals by reading the signs of the wild and following them.

The Sunland Baobab is a well-known enormous baobab. The tree is located on sunland Farm, near Modjadjiskloof, Limpopo Province. The Sunland Bib Baobab is renowned because in its hollowed trunk there is an established bar and wine cellar. The tree has been carbon dated and is estimated to be around 6000 years old which would make it one of the oldest trees in the world.

This spectacular waterfall is a popular picnic site for locals and visitors to the area. The area is also popular for bird watching due to the abundant bird life and the possibility of spotting the elusive Grey Wagtail. There are picnic facilities and short walking trails along the river.

Lying just off the R71 outside Haenertsburg where the Drakensburg meets the Strydpoort Mountains, is the Wolkberg Wilderness Area. A huge unspoiled natural area where hikers can walk and hike at their own risk. There are no marked trails and hikers can choose their own route and the number of days they spend with their backpacks and camera.

The Magoebaskloof Canopy Tour takes people into an inaccessible realm of nature whereby platforms built high within the upper level of indigenous forests or against the cliffs of ancient mountains are joined by spectacular ‘foefie’ type cable slides high above the forest floor and breathtaking waterfalls. Enjoy the ecology and geology of Letaba River Gorge, one of the best in South Africa.
